Information Letter – February 2026

Dear friends,

In John chapter 11, Mary is described as the woman who wept over Jesus’ feet, dried them with her hair, and then anointed them with a great deal of expensive, fragrant oil.  She had apparently caused this unwelcome scandal in the house of a Pharisee. What had happened to this woman beforehand?  What kind of liberation had she experienced through her encounter with Jesus?  An earthquake must have occurred in her life for her to break all the rules of society and know only one purpose for gratitude…

The happy OR – Team in Shell

We experience similar situations again and again at Shell Hospital, even if the patients don’t exactly douse our feet with perfume.  A large portion of the people’s ailments here are a consequence of anger, unresolved conflicts, and the fear and entanglements of guilt.  Our chaplains and physicians are repeatedly called upon to address such issues. They are privileged to offer deliverance in the name of Jesus.  At the end of a long conversation, the patient expresses their gratitude, “You have helped me so much, thank you!”  All they have done is unburden themselves of their frustrations. The listening doctor or chaplain only asked a question here and there, but a soul found peace.  This is how God often works in Shell.

We are delighted to finally have a new, used anesthesia machine with a warranty. Together with new infusion pumps for the operating room and the electrocautery unit, patient safety has been significantly improved.

We are so grateful for the donations we received.  Many loyal friends still remember it. The hospital has been able to make many improvements, including a new dental chair soon.  All of this is made possible time and again through aid from abroad. Most of it, however, comes from increased revenue.

We are grateful that the team is becoming increasingly adept at making such improvements.  Thank you for the donations for the purchase of the blood gas analyzer.

We are only now realizing the success of the Christmas campaigns and are overwhelmed by so much support. THANK YOU!

The photovoltaic system is still our long-term goal for a few years from now, but opportunities, perhaps even doors, are opening up.

We are also pleased to welcome international staff who will be assisting us this year in medicine, technology, and skilled trades.  This is especially welcome at a time when strangers are less welcome worldwide.
